Daphne Cartwright, Artist

About me

Daphne Cartwright, artist, born in the City of Derby, but partly brought up in the nearby countryside, has from an early age been sensitive to the very differing aspects of the urban and the rural. This is reflected in her work, which can be both lyrical and intuitive and also rigorous and analytical.

She received her art education firstly at Derby and District College of Art and then at Bath Academy of Art, Corsham, where she studied under Howard Hodgkin and Gillian Ayres, graduating with a BA(Hons) in the late 1960s.

Now living in Devon, Daphne, besides exhibiting nationally and abroad, has developed a reputation as an inspirational teacher and mentor.

Her work is well represented in both public and private collections here and in America and Spain.

Daphne has also undertaken design commissions, particularly for Theatre.
